I responded with my current and planned apps. I was approved. I was promised a device. I wound up having to purchase my own off of eBay. I paid $99 for access to the dev site. I was promised reimbursement. I decided that I would start developing for Windows Phone, when I received one thing from Microsoft. I have received nothing at all, but hot air.

To me, it looks like Brandon Watson used webOS's death as an advertising ploy and cashed in on those that switched over, without giving anything. All queries on Twitter were answered with "Have you spoken with your rep?" Yes, I had emailed them multiple times, and received nothing but empty promises.

I won't even get into the nightmare that was integrating Windows Live, XBox Live, and all other services together. The experience was similar to the issues with cancelling Zune Pass. Microsoft has all these systems and none talk with each other directly.

The whole experience left such a bad taste in my mouth that the Android SDK doesn't look as bad. I really loved the Windows XNA platform. It was cool. Now, I've just decided to go OpenGL and that means it will probably run on every device BUT Windows Phone. So be it.

I'm am curious about this comment. Care to elaborate?

> Microsoft representatives promised to get phones
> and development credits to webOS programmers.
> Despite many requests, it turned out to be a
> bunch of hot air.

I remember when Brandon Watson tried to entice former webOS developers with free devices to work on. When I sent them an email with proof of my apps and then all of a sudden there were all these requirements I had to meet. I just gave up. Was your experience the same? Thanks.

This is Mom - because the candied cherries sold for fruitcakes taste like something died in them, I also candy the cherries. I use the sugar mixture that I candied the orange peels and candy maraschino cherries in it.

Still not sure what I'm doing wrong, but my files are ending up at around 1.5Gb or higher. Muppets Takes Manhattan is 1hr 34min and is 1.6Gb.

I have my bitrate set at 2200, so maybe that is causing it? Not really concerned with ripping and converting for just tablets, also have a WD Live and want to get all the kid's movies on external drive to cut down on fingerprints and scratches....but Touchpad is nice little player for long car rides!

I try to use just WiFi sync for my phone, because I don't want to have to plug it into the computer all the time. Now all I get are loads of PodCast downloads that will do nothing other than stay in Pending.

One advantage of podcasts on the phone. I've found it the easiest way to manage audio books. If the books have track numbers, set content type to podcasts. It will have the book as its own "podcast" and then auto delete the parts you have already listened to. Instead of dealing with the pending downloads, I've been listening to audio books, instead of podcasts.

I had the crashing Kindle App problem without sideloading at all. At first I thought it was certain books that had images in them etc. but once in that state it was across the board. I was able when first launching to watch for the initial catalog icon in the top left, tap it and get out of the crashed book. But like I said, at that point the app was unstable. One time, just tapping the power button and then cancelling the shutdown was enough to clear it. Every other time it's happened I can restart and I'm fine again. I don't know if there's a task manager app, but it looks like the app doesn't get completely terminated and will still have trouble until restart.

Hey awesome post, this is great, working for me just fine. In fact, I took advantage of Box.Net's "give your co-workers 50gb" and set up multiple accounts on my privately owned domain name/email server (offer will not work with well-known email domain names ie:gmail, hotmail, etc) so I have 5 more accounts w. 50GB, which I mapped as well (each uses specific creds but you can check SAVE MY CREDENTIALS on the mapped drive so basically you are inputing this info once on each mapping). So I have several 50GB drives now mapped on my work comps, home comp, and laptop....pretty sweet.

Unfortunately, after only one week on 7.5 (Mango), I must agree that the podcasting is terrible. I am ready to go back to syncing my podcasts through the zune program on my PC. I hope they do something ASAP to fix this.

900 Mb is about what I would expect from a full sized movie. If you wish to get the size smaller, you can either lower quality or lower the resolution of the file. You don't get anything for free and the full resolution encoding for the Touchpad is rather large.

Availability of the Kindle app is controlled by Amazon and HP. You may be able to use some WebOS Internals tools to spoof your location when you setup the device to get it loaded. Or copy it off another device. Although that last option enters into infringement, even for a paid app.

I want to clarify this little hack. What one is really doing is renaming the .mobi file to the name of the Amazon book, including the .azw extension. You need to do this in another directory or rename the original Amazon book by adding an extra letter or number to the file name. For example, I rename XXXXXX.mobi to B000JMLFLW_EBOK.azw and then copy it to the .palmkindle directory and answer yes to over-write the original file. Do the same with the .mobi book .jpg and copy it over the original book's .jpg. I copied it over the the "large" .jpg as they were around the same size. If you want to have more than one book in your library, you will have to download several free ebooks from Amazon as you need a unique book name for each book you want to change. I don't agree that this is a lot of work as all is required is renaming a file and copying it to the .palmkindle directory. As long as one can see the correct book covers, who cares what the data base says. I also found that .mobi files don't always display correctly in pReader unless I used Calibre to convert it to a .pdb(Palm) format book. Happy reading.

Joe, I just tried using XP, selecting:
My Network Places/Tools/map Network Drive
I then selected "Connect using a different name", and enetered my box.net ID and password.
XP then said:
The Network path https://www.box.net/dav/ could not be found.

I am using Norton Internet Security and have XP's firewall on.

When I was not able to log in, I even tried setting up a VPN into Box.net but no success there.
Any thoughts?

That would require changing the Kindle App code. I haven't bothered working that out. So changing the book name isn't possible right now. This is more of a hack than a solution. The best method is still to use pReader.
