February 23rd, 2008
Amy found this recipe and tried it for our United Way bake sale at work. It is the first chocolate chip cookie recipe I have ever seen with pudding in the mix.

Recipe - Beef Stroganoff
January 11th, 2008
We had over a friend and her daughter this evening, so I was given the job of entertaining this young whirlwind. I decided to make Beef Stroganoff with homemade Egg Noodles. The noodles are easy, just flour and egg in a food processor, as described in this post. She really enjoyed watching the entire process from food processor through the pasta cutters. I made very thin fettuccine style noodles.

Recipe - Sour Cream Pound Cake
January 2nd, 2008
I always loved when Mom made this Sour Cream Pound Cake. The crust is delightful. I finally made my first try of this earlier this year. I used a stoneware bundt pan and that was a mistake. The cake came out, sans crust. So I had to scrape it out to eat it. So was it really a mistake?
I’ve had my best luck making this in a standard loaf pan.

Recipe - Mom’s Red Hots
December 30th, 2007
I remember when my mom got her first advanced microwave, when I was a kid. It had a meat and candy thermometer that allowed us to make some fun things. One recipe we used to make often during the holidays were these red hots. While you don’t have to use a microwave, it sure was easy with the temperature probe. Be careful though, the red hots stick to you and really can make a bad burn.

Recipe - Mom’s Fruitcake
December 24th, 2007
It is unfortunate that fruit cake has gotten a bad name. It is the brick hard gift that keeps re-gifting. The typical insults about fruit cake are true with most store bought fruit cake. I love my mom’s fruitcake. She purchases her own fruit, with exception of the orange peel that she candies herself.

Recipe - Mom’s Hamburger Stew
December 20th, 2007
I haven’t had this in quite a few years. It was a staple when we were growing up. I don’t think I would be exaggerating to say I’ve probably had over a hundred servings. I might have to make a batch for old time sake.

Recipe - Basic Pasta
December 18th, 2007
This is probably the most basic recipe I will ever post. Standard Egg Noodles. However, these are so easy to make and quicker than boiling store bought noodles. It takes around 10 minutes to make the pasta dough and 1-3 minutes to cook them. For store bought noodles, you are lucky to finish in 15 minutes, if you can get the water boiling in 5 minutes.

Recipe - Pecan Fingers
December 16th, 2007
I love these. They are like little pecan pies, with a sweet glaze. Kind of addicting, but what good desserts aren’t?
Serves: 32 (if you cut them into 32 bars and only eat 1… I’ll call it serves 16.)

Experiment - Baked Chicken and Ham Penne
December 15th, 2007
This is the first of what I expect to be many experiments. I haven’t fleshed this out to an exact recipe and will probably modify it as I repeat the same dish.
I wanted to make some type of baked Penne dish today. I started the pasta cooking a little earlier than I should, but they hydrated back up while baking. I decided to go with a white sauce and use mushrooms and broccoli. So here we go:
